Sea swimming continues to grow as a popular pastime, as demonstrated by increased footfall in the area, the formation of the Guernsey Swim All Seasons Facebook page and the popular 12 Bays of Christmas fundraiser for Les Bourgs Hospice.
Building to commence January 2021
Although the building contract has yet to be signed, work on-site is expected to start in early January 2021. From that time, the changing rooms will out of operation for the duration of the building works which is estimated to be 12 months.
Temporary changing room to be installed during December
A temporary changing facility will be provided to coincide with the building work start date. The existing changing rooms will be closed on health and safety grounds so that the work can commence. The temporary facility will have a power supply and key holders will be able to access the temporary changing facilities as at present.
The new café and upgraded changing facilities should be operational Jan 2022.
An asbestos survey has recently taken place to ensure there are no asbestos-related issues prior to works starting.
Kiosk and car parking
There will not be a kiosk offering for the first three months of 2021 but we are exploring the possibility of a temporary facility for the summer months.
Car parking discussions are ongoing with the relevant States of Guernsey department and there is no specif news to report at this stage.
Following vital feedback from regular users, some important amendments have been made to the design. These include a facility to make hot drinks in the refurbished changing rooms and the addition of bench seating at the front of the changing rooms to enjoy the morning sunshine and view. Thank you for your ideas and feedback!
VLV continue to liaise closely with the States of Guernsey regarding their commitment to carry out essential repairs to the pools and will make further information available on this important matter when available.
