Our Vision

The Bathing Pools will become a vibrant destination where everyone can feel welcome and valued. A place where people’s lives are improved.

A venue to support the physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing of our community and visitors to the island. Focusing on education, the history and heritage of the site, sustainability, the environment and social interaction.

A place to meet, enjoy the sea, try something new and nurture your physical and mental wellbeing.

  • Improved changing facilities for swimmers to use anytime, all year round

  • A redeveloped café offering a simple menu with a focus on quality, health and affordability

  • A flexible space, accessible to all, with an emphasis on furthering physical and mental health, the arts, performance, music and culture

  • A safe and inclusive environment designed to encourage all members of the community to feel they belong

  • A sustainable development that enhances the coastal landscape

  • A destination space for both locals and visitors

  • Securing the legacy of the pools for generations to come

  • Mental Health & Wellbeing

A view, a walk, a moment of reflection, the sea air, the sound of the waves and a chance to be creative or active can all contribute to a sense of calm – making our lives less stressful and more meaningful.

The facilities at La Vallette have been designed to provide a space for everyone in our community to enjoy creative, meaningful and purposeful activities, all accessed by active travel solutions.

  • Activities and programmes

We are creating a flexible space that will open up opportunities for other local charities, community groups and schools to deliver and access meaningful and purposeful activities.

The pools and their surroundings are a source of great inspiration for those that want to get active, get creative and get curious. The surrounding area and the venue will provide scope to deliver workshops and facilitate a broad variety of activity sessions.

We envisage people exploring the shoreline, using the pools, exploring the beach, using the changing rooms, connecting in the café and using the more sheltered flexible space on the upper level. We are collaborating and developing key alliances with organisations to develop ideas to ensure the facilities are well used and relevant. Local schools, The Guernsey Sports Commission, The Health Improvement Commission, Guernsey Mind, Arts for Impact, The Alzheimer’s Society, Bright Beginnings, The Youth Commission, Dementia Friendly Guernsey, The Guernsey Cheshire Home, The Pollinator project, Health Connections all have pipeline plans to use the space to support their aims and visions.

We hope to help realise the full potential of the Bathing Pools site and welcome the Guernsey community to take part, connect and get creative

  • Physical Health

There are many ways that La Vallette can contribute to improving the physical health of the community. The simple act of walking down to enjoy the view or have a coffee is just the beginning of how La Vallette can become part of a balanced approach to activity.
For the more adventurous, swimming in the sea or the pools offers benefits for the whole body. We want to use the amazing outlook to inspire groups to try new activities, maybe even a wellbeing activity that is now part of prescribed treatments from your GP.
We have a playground on our doorstep for outdoor activities and access to the cliffs and the sea. Triathlon, SUP, kayaking, coasteering and open water swimming could all begin, end or transition here. La Vallette can be a vibrant mix of physical activity for everyone always mindful of the environment around us

  • Changing Rooms

The changing rooms will be upgraded to ensure they are warm and comfortable. We are working on the details to allow access 24/7 for those hardy year-round swimmers, with facilities to make a hot drink and have a quick shower.

We know that this space is much more than just somewhere to change and hang a towel. It’s where conversations start and friendships are made. We’ve listened to regular swimmers and it’s our intention to keep this area accessible, simple, functional and mixed gender.

  • Bathing Pools

Thanks to the Vive La Vallette project and the States of Guernsey Seafront Enhancement Plan, the pools will be restored and maintained for future generations to enjoy seawater swimming in St Peter Port.
The Victorian pools are a legacy we all treasure; they will be maintained as an asset for islanders and visitors for years to come.

  • Cafe

The café will play an integral part in The Bathing Pools regeneration. We want it to be the heart that connects the whole community. To be a venue for everyone to enjoy one of the island’s favourite places.

From inside the modernised building you will experience stunning views across Havelet Bay and the Little Russell all year round. Daniel Green Catering is supporting us with the design of the kitchen and the development of a system and menu that will provide healthy and nutritious food at affordable prices. We are also collaborating with the Health Improvement Commission to develop initiatives to help people to eat well.

The café will provide a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where everyone will feel welcome. There’ll be a drinks and ice cream hatch on the terrace for takeaway items and a counter service inside.
